Sustainability day 10 October 2024

10 October 2024 is sustainability day in The Netherlands and a perfect opportunity to explain more about our non nuclear slurry density meter technology according to UN sustainability goals. Of course sustainability is a very important issue for Alia Instruments. The most obvious is our effort to help industry to chance from using radioactive sources for measuring slurry density. Our non-nuclear slurry density meter is in high demand in different industries. What started in the dredging industry is now expanding in at least 5 different industries. We see lots of attention for example in mining where initiatives in clear reporting like according to the ICMM guidelines are very important.

Slurry density meter technology according to UN sustainability goals

Our technology meets amongst others at least 3 important UN sustainability goals:

SDG 3 – Good health and well-being: Non-nuclear is much safer for the workers on site or vessel, but also the community around profits from not using a radioactive source

SDG 6 – Clean water and sanitation: Using advanced monitoring and the essential equipment like our density meter safes on fuel – CO2 reduction – and water footprint. Some of our clients e.g. in KSA have indicated that our advanced slurry density meter helps them to drastically reduce their water footprint.

SDG12 – Responsible consumption and production: Not only does our accurate slurry density meter increases production, reduces consumption of water and fuel, but the different parts of the density meter can be recycled and there is no radioactive waste!

Sustainable choices

Of course there are also the small things that count and just require a little bit of attention in the choices that we make:

–         Our information and manuals are available in digital form. If we need to make prints than preferably on responsible paper. For example our business cards are printed on 100% recycled fibers and have different environmental product certificates. It is a small effort to make sustainable choices in these things.

–         We test and calibrate the slurry density meters in our factory. We deliver them pre calibrated to our clients. This saves travelling for commissioning because our clients can easily do this themselves. For the multi point calibration in our factory we use glycerin with a density of 1.26 kg/l. From the different options available we have chosen for our testing glycerin without palm oil to save the forest.

A more sustainable future!

Each day we can make choices the make the future for our planet more sustainable. Our density meter and the way we make it delivers a good contribution to a more sustainable future!
